It's unusual how they have such a variation in behaviour. Luckily he is doing well in his new home so all is good! Surprised yours beat on Oscars, mine ignored my acaras completely

Well first sorry to hear of your troubles Hendre Hendre .
I have had synodontis in a lot of my tanks throughout most of my life, very rarely have I had them be aggressive to the point of killing anything but themselves. I have had synos kill each other. Other fish usually get chased away from the hiding spot or the syno moves. Currently I have 6 mixed synos in the poly pond no issues. I have 9 in a grow out with cyps and my newest del no issues there....although I'm pretty sure the del needs to go in the pond sooner then later it's starting to get to the size other fish may start to disappear.
I have seen some of the bigger synos that came into lfs were being rehomed for this reason, but once at the lfs they cohab with other fish fine. Maybe it's the other fish that gets killed fault as it won't back down or move away when the syno attacks.
Like I said above I've had two different types of syno fight over territory or whatever it was and one ended up dying that has happened a couple times in my life. I've also tried to keep to small of a group of multipunks, that ends badly for the odd man out or the other pair in a foursome.
I have not kept every kind of syno maybe some are just more aggressive than others. I usually stay away from the ones that turn "muddy" as they age. The ones that loose their markings and turn brown, grey, or black.
