I'm not sure if you've ever seen a jaguar cichlid skull?
There's a thread here somewhere that has one.
Take a good look at those chompers. EEEK
Don't get me wrong Dovii are pretty scary too but yeah BIG difference in teeth compared to other cichlids
LOL I always thought they were called jaguars because of their color patterns.

Here is that jag skull....

Jesus! I'm not putting my hand anywhere near a full grown jag

Almost every Jag I've kept has been really shy until it hits about 6-7 inches. Alot of times I would almost forget that they were there. Then one morning Id wake up to a massacre and remember I bought a Jag six months prior. They always seemed to get worse when the lights went out too. Great fish though, definitely one of my favorites.

I had a 10 inch male jag that would slam the side of the tank whenever you'd come within 3 feet of it. He was a nasty bastard. He'd rip the algae scraper out of my hand as I cleaned the tank. One hell of a fish.

My 14 inch male would do the same With the algae scraper. I also had to re-home a 16" common pleco because my big male was grabbing him by the tail and slamming him against the glass like a wrecking ball.

This is where predatory cichlids have an advantage over the omnivores. Once they get aggressive they can do way more damage quickly. I recently traded my p. loisellie, because he just snapped one day and was beating everything up. I miss that fish, but can't lose my whole community to him.

I re-home my Jag cause it attacked my arm when I'm doing weekly cleaning...and it did bleed me good for the last time, anyway while in my tank its successful killed a Pleco, Green Terror and a 9 inches purple wolffish. They were keep together at very young age and 1 day the Jag just become jerk and started killing everything in the tank.

How can you underestimate a jag? Every search leads you to a thread about how nasty they can be. In all honesty you usually don't get the true parachromis aggression until they reach 6-10" depending on the fish. My jags have been on the milder side. Super territorial, but not just outright aggressive like mota's/dovii. Mixing CA's with SA's is generally not a good idea.
