New 1100 gallon pond project. (Humidity concern)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Tested the water last night. Everything is perfect! :)

Ammonia: 0
PH: 7.5
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 5ppm

woot!

I also painted the centrale brace flat black. I'll put on a second coat of paint tonight and I'll post pictures when it's dry. It looks much better. lol

Small picture update.

I painted the central support.

Alright, I've got some more questions about humidity control.

This weekend I installed a/c unit in the basement to help with the humidity created by the new pond.

With the dehumidifier on and A/C off I was at: 79F / 56% humidity
After running the A/C for 12 hours with the dehumidifier off: 70F / 66% humidity

I thought the A/C would help lover the humidity level. Especially with the amount of water draining out of it.

I checked online and the way I understand it. Air density is different so 66% humidity at 70F doesn't necessarily means there is more humidity then 56% at 79F.

Is that correct?

Anyway, I turned on the dehumidifier this morning before leaving for work. I'll see what the data is when I come back home tonight.

The way I understand it (meaning I probably don't know what I am talking about), the larger the temp differential between the water and the air, the more humidity you will get. This seems to be in line with what you experienced...running the AC brought your air temps down to almost 10F colder and you saw a 10% rise in humidity. I definitely have humidity issues in the winter-time when air temps in my fish room get down into the 50s and tank water is around 78F. I get condensation on my windows. It's not as big of a deal to me since it's in a shed in my yard, but if it were my house I would definitely look into getting the humidity down to the 50s% or lower. On cold winter nights, my humidity levels can get upwards of 70%.

What type of air exchanger do you have?

The humidity is all better. I just forgot to update the tread.

Air temp: 74F
Water temp: 72F
Humidity: 50%
