I'm pretty sure mine is a Maison Reef. Its a fish well worth getting.

Question regarding amount to feed. I have always been a heavy feeder, so trying to reduce. Always worry some of the fish not getting enough.

I have read so many different suggestions on feeding. How much do you feed yours?

For instance, I have 22 fish in my tank, ranging from 3.5 inch to 7.5 inch. I have NLS 1mm and Northfin 2mm pellets. How many pellets per feeding and how many times per day?

When I feed around 20 - 25 pellets, they finish it in 2 seconds.

thanks

Feed what they will eat before the pellets hit the substrate. 30 seconds is the usual guideline.

Indicators of too much food? Algae and nitrates.

Indicators of too little food? Concave bellies.

NLS 1mm pellets once a day. No idea how many pellets are actually put in per feeding. I would guess 500 but that is purely a guess. I place it directly on top of the eheim spray bar so as soon as it hits it sinks and is distributed throughout the tank Very rarely do I see any pellets make it to the gravel. I have about 35-40 fish so this equates to roughly 13 pellets per fish but I also know that the bigger fish hit the top pretty hard and scoop up a lot. After the pellets are gone from the water column it is typical to see the majority of the fish scooping up gravel and spitting looking for food.

13 pellets per fish, then I think I am feeding too little. I thinking I am feeding 1-2 pellets per fish 3 time a day. Will up it a little.

thanks

No pellet hit the gravel, and they usually finish in a second or two. I will increase the amount a little and see how it goes.

thanks

That is a very general estimate. Generally I watch the fish eat. Look for any that are not eating and figure out if there is an issue or it is a holding female. As long as they are all eating and no excessive amounts of food left after 20-30 seconds I think everything is good.
If I only threw 20-25 pellets in my blue lip would get just about all of them. He has a really big mouth. Lol

Ok thanks, I guess I have been too stingy, gonna increase the amount a little more. No wonder my fish all look so hungry all the time. ?

Hi
The fishes are doing good so far. No fighting and poop color are starting to be normal, at least for the one I can see.

I do have two questions,

1. I notice my Christyi eats but seems to be slow at it. It’s not the smallest but among the smaller one in the tank. It’s almost seems like it’s afraid to approach when everyone is eating vigorously. Is that normal or he might be sick?

2. regarding lighting, do you find the fish happier with dimmer lighting? When I have my light at the brightest, I think my fishes starts to look stress after a while. If I leave it at dimmer setting, they swimming around looking happier and less aggressive. If this normal or will it change as time pass?

thanks
