New 125 Gallon 72X18X24

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I like the hydro sponge as an additional. to be able to hook up a battery powered air stone to it in a power outage is just SLICK. Be prepared, not paranoid..:) I've been reading about breeding pairs, and it sounds like people get 4-6 juvies and raise them up from 2-3 inches and they usually get a breeding pair out of it. That about right? So I'm thinking about doing that with 5 different species. That's 28 2-3 inch fish in a 135 Gal tank. Think that'll fly? It sounds like a lot, but then looking at the tank, it's 6 feet long. The fish I'm wanting to do this with:
Trimac's
Synspilum (Qetzal)
Green Terror (Rivulatus)
H. Carpintis
Chocolate (H. temporalis)

Suggestions?

Thanks...

And what's everybody think about rinsing the pool sand? I read somewhere (here?) a guy saying no need to rinse pool sand because it comes pretty clean--unlike play sand. He said it can't be dirty or it'd cloud up a pool, so they clean it up real good before they package it?

Not true. Pfs doesn't have as much dust as most other types of sand but it still needs to be washed. Most ppl wash it before putting it in the pool sand filter. Also the backwash feature on pools would get rid of the dust. And the ratio of sand to water in a pool is ridiculously lower than in a tank.

Always throw whatever sub into a bucket and stick a hose in the bottom and all the fine particles like dust will rinse out the top. Play sand and lfs sand has tiny particles and that's why pfs ime is awesome. Bigger grain + sinks fast.

Silica sand, I get it in 75lb bags, $5 per bag. I use 150 lbs in each of my tanks. Very minimal rinsing required. I get it at a place that sells swimming pools, it's different than pool filter sand.

You may have issues with the GT's I have six and the biggest male is a douche. Once he paired off I had to move him and his girlfriend into a 55 by themselves. The rest of the fish you said I don't know much about.
