So, New tank coming:nilly:

I'm stuck on what fish to get! I have 5 Discus in a 45 gallon, but I really do and really don't want to move them to the new tank I'm getting. I'm worried they'll limit my ability to have some really cool big fish. I've wanted some Needle nose gar, Oscars, Stingrays and arowanas (and more monster fish) for a long time. Can i keep discus with any of these in the new tank????? What are some cool moster fish that I could keep with discus?

Thanks!

I'm new to this forums so be gentile please:)

maybe arowanas and discus might works if your lucky and if the discus wont fit in the arowanas mouth

Should I just keep the discus in the bare bottom 45 with daily water changes?

I do like those gar a lot...

Ok. Should I move the discus or keep them in the 45? Can I keep the gar with discus or any of my other choices?

What are some other cool fish I could pick?

I'm pretty sure you could keep the needle nose gar with them since they don't get to large for the discus to actually fit in its mouth

Discus limit what other fish you can put in with them due to temp requirements. Some common tankmates for discus are:

Angels (which can get pretty big)

Rams

Rummy nose tetras

Cardinal tetras.

As someone else mentioned, you can put reticulated (tea cup) stingrays in there as well.

If you go with stingrays, they require certain types of feeding and need a sand substrate. They're pretty cool to watch though.

The rays will eat smaller fish, so that eliminates a lot of the possibilities of other tank mates.

I've mixed Angels, Discus, and Arowanas in the same tank with very pleasant results. The Aro can outgrow either tank though, at which time you can always trade for something else.
