My grandma just gave me the go-ahead to her pond to do what I want with it. My plan is my channel catfish and possibly two large mouth bass and my gar in the summers(even though they are native up here I'm Not sure how they would fair if it freezes over). It's 15 feet long(roughly), 6 feet wide(at widest), and 24 inches deep. It has a lot of very nice lily pads and other plants, along with rock work. I'm not sure about filtration yet so do please leave recommendations. Also, any ideas for stocking? And should I be considerened about raccoons and hawks(we do have them)? Thanks.

Racoons fish in my pond all the time, they eat the heads off the fish and leave the rest, if they can get them.
I now have a paintball gun next to the window, doesn't kill them, but makes them leave.
I have a DIY phoam phractionator that really take out the green water type algae, found the plans on koiphen.com.

pond is, and has been clear since spring when I put it into use, and 3/4 of it gets full sun.

I had a goldfish pond by my front window in Michigan a few years back. I used to have an aereator so it [would not freeze and the goldies were fine. I would never feed the pond if the pond water went to 50 degrees or under. The fish kinda went dormant when it was cold but as long as the pond is aereated and does not freeze the fish will be fine espicially your natives.
