So the guy not eating is the one fertelizing the eggs? Or is there another male in there doing the fertilizing? If its another one maybe the big one is gettn harrassed?

Yes i would be concerned for that period of time but you also say he is breeding so some of this may facter into it ...Big chunks of boggwood will give the vitamins and safely bring down your ph but you will need some big chunks depending on your tank size .....Oops and hey i have about a hundred pounds of wood in my 675....

Yes, I would check with the original owner to see how much of his diet was live food. Maybe he's missing that.

I'd be concerned as well, that doesn't sound like near enough food and if you've had it for months seems like it should be acclimated. Perhaps there is some other factors stressing it...

hey guys, yes he is the one breeding-to the person who asked...hulon, thanks for that info, will look into bogwood-I have a 300 gallon, lfs will have this?
guapote, yes i'm trying to figure out whats going on, I do know that the previous owner said that he didnt have to compete with food in his last home, and now i have 3 other pbass to compete with-and the ph thing are the only two things that i can see are whats doing this to him...buts he's the largest guy in the tank! lol
I'm planning on moving the other 2 pbass to my 180, what do you think guys, I think it may give him less fish to worry about...
again thanks for all of your helpful sugestions, i really appreciate it guys!
john

^^^moving the other to the 180 would make for less stress. Id do that and see if it improves his appetite. Did he spawn at all for the other owner? Maybe this is why he is not paying attention to eating as much?

no he never did gangster-I told the previous owner and he was stoked..this guy was only in a tank with a tem and an oscar when I bought him...(I bought him to mate with my peruvian mono) this mono is super orange-never really saw one like this before...
and immediatly after writting about moving the other bass, I did!
Today I go to check on everyone...and guess what...GREAT NEWS!!!!!!!
He smashed 3 live shinners tonight!!! and.....the eggs hatched and we have wigglers and free swimmers!!! I syphoned as many little ones as I could today into the nursery tank...but there are still a lot more in the parents tank that I will try for again tomorrow morning. I'm guessing he ate the shinners for 2 reasons, less competition in the tank, and guarding purposes...didn't want to feed him too many after eating like a pigeon for almost 2 months ya know...gonna throw some more in there tomorrow!
AWESOMENESS!!!!
Gonna try to snap some pics of the couple...gotta say, I'm pretty decent when it comes to taking pics, but with fish, in the low light conditions I suck! lol

Oh great Can't wait for the pic update!!!!

Congrats...maybe he'll eat a few pellets for ya now. Good luck w/ the fry this time.
