I would like to do sand, but have decided against it because my prior tank got scratched by rays swimming up the side with sand stuck on belly. I have an acrylic tank.

I agree with u about scratching the tank but without sand they don't feel as clam or in their environment. My tank is also acrylic and my rays haven't scratch my tank yet, my rays doesn't go on the side as much as other rays I seen that does..

I like the way it looks with sand, only put a little in the middle to back, so easy to clean

Let me know how it goes. I agree with you about providing a natural setting. If you experience minimal scratching, maybe I'll reconsider. My tank has a black back and stand, so white sand would make my two bds pop!

My Ray never cover up himself with sand and it's been a month now, I don't see any scratches at all so I say go for sand especially u have a black background, your rays will look amazing!!

I'm worried about the -sand- scratching the tank..........The rays, however, are the ones that cause the sand to make contact with side acrylic walls (as the sand is stuck to their belly).

Without sand, I currently have no scratches even though the rays are constantly swimming up the side walls of tank.

Well just think about it, seeing sand in your tank just might change your mind... My tank was bare bottom and I like it cause it's so easy to clean but without sand they don't look as nice and more clam
