New 2" IT's on the way, what should i feed?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
do you get your live blood worms on-line or from a LFS? mine doesn't have any live ones.

thanks for the advice
I got mines from a LPS but most Petsmart and Petco have frozen bloodworms but I dont like thoses stores[expensive] If you know of a bait shop you can buy some mini red worms or dig some up. Try the crush pellet worms mix, gets them use to taste of pellet

well i got my (advertised) 2" Dats today. i swear they are closer to 1/2". man are they small! surprisingly aggressive little buggers though. i put them in my guppy tank so they wouldn't get eaten by my 2" oscar. i really hoped to put these in my main tank but that is not happening for now. so now i need to figure out what to feed. they are chasing the baby guppies around but i think that they are to big. i fed some flake, to the guppies, and a couple of the Dats took a couple bites. i also put in some frozen blood worms and they at least picked at them.

is that what i should feed? if not what?

thanks for any help. nervous new dad :)

if they are eating flakes maybe you can get them on small or crushed pellets? i would give it a shot, if not. just try mysis shrimp or frozen bloodworms until they get a bit bigger.

i got a 2inch IT a few weeks back

what you have to remember is that when fish are shipped they are starved for some time so when you 1st get them thats the best time to feed pellets

with my 2inch i dumped in pellets and it took them from day 1

pellets make tigers grow at double the speed if fed on other foods FACT

so when you guys say "pellets", do you mean sinking cichlid pellets or shrimp pellets or something else?

these guys are so small, i'm glad to hear that they have a chance

hikari sinking carnivore or hikari sturgeon mini

Tubifex worms usually come from local fish stores and are live, but like many have already said pellets should be the initial priority.

Congrats on your new datnoids, they are so adorable! I recently got myself 7 IT's too, they are about 1" only, I guess I'm lucky they are feeding on pellets already :) I skipped feeding the first day, even though they got used to the tank pretty quick and soon were begging for food. I thawed a cube of blood worm and mashed them up(in a small container), then I added some 1mm NLS cichlid pellets and let it soak overnight, fed the next day and they ate like pigs ever since. Good luck with yours!

i never thought about soaking over night, great idea.... thanks :). i have seen one or two try frozen blood worms but no pellets yet. one or two are thin, i'm worried.....

will try soaking with blood worms to get that flavor mixed in.

I'm getting them n frozen blood worm at he moment too. Mine are around the same size, hope to see yours fatter than mine in time to come ya, cheers
