just set it up today. not adding fish for another few weeks.

GOOD! Big mistake to add fish to a planted aquarium too soon. I would get that CO2 unit on there pretty soon, you will have much better growth with it. It takes about a week to 2 weeks longer if you don't have CO2 before you can add fish safely.

neons food for the rams? ehhh.. i don't know about that. i've done it before and they were fine. but that doesn't mean it can't happen this time. fish are unpredictable. i'm sure you know that.

I have a school of neons in with my Archer fish, and he leaves them alone. I think you'll be fine there.

German rams are blue rams right? Don't worry about your neons. Even Bolivian rams and discus would not bother neons. But I would suggest you get Cardinal tetras instead of neons. They're more hardy and prettier.

To each his own. My wife thinks Neons are the most beautiful fish on the planet.

yes, they are. ;) oh, i'm not worried about my the neons. yea, i'd get the cardinals, but i've had no success in keeping them in the past. i've always found them to be more sensitive than than neons. so idk. yea, prettier i'll agree.

i added some italian valesneria, and a hygrophila. like i said, i don't wanna add too much as it is on a 20 gallon. i figure that the micro sword will fill the front, italian val for the mid-ground and the rotala and hygrophila in the back, along with the unidentified plant attached to the rock. if anyone can help ID this plant, it'll be appreciated. i'm working on finding out what it is in the mean time.

-EDIT-

i think the plant i attached to the rock is called Bolbitis heudelotti. its common name is an african water fern. am i correct?

african water fern. very cool. will be able to see it waving in the water in a couple.
So...when the tank cycles...and it's not in equilibrium...which one crashes first? the fish or the plants? i am eagerly setting up and cycling my new tank, but i am impatient and just wanna transfer all the fish and the java fern and anubias in.
