New 210 gallon CA setup

How do you make the wood hang from the top?

The branch on the left is wedged into the 'rockwork' at the top, and by rocks and sand at the bottom.

The thin branches on the right side of the tank are held in place at the bottom by gluing small strips of PVC to the bottom of the tank. These pieces of PVC simply prevent the wood from swinging upward because of their buoyancy. More importantly, the tops of the branches are screwed to small pieces of plexiglas that I siliconed in place beneath the lip of the aquarium frame. The screw is stainless steel. Here's a photo taken from above the aquarium:

The larger piece of driftwood on the right side is mounted directly to the panel of the DIY background. Note that although the background is made of styrofoam, I mounted it to plexiglas before installing it in the aquarium. The plexiglas backing allowed me to fix the driftwood securely in place.

Cheers,
Ian

Thats a great idea for mounting the pieces. It all came out amazing looking thats for sure. When you collected the smaller dried out branches was there a cleaning/ soaking prosses that you did before hand. I love the look of branches in the water for the fish to swim around.

I collected pieces that were dry, relatively clean (i.e., no lichens, moss, soil etc), and sun-bleached. I then rinsed them in a salt bath, scraped away remnants of bark, and left them in the sun while I worked on other aspects of the setup.

Great job, love the background pieces in each corner - something like that could probably be modified to hide corner overflows. Hmm, you gave me an idea for my 210!
