To start all 3 90gl acrylic tank have been through hell and back( foot print is 48'' x 24'').They have some shatter cracks scratch and mars all over them except for the backs.I want to build a tight fitting wood stand lined with plywood to help support them.I also want to paint the inside blue with some kind of pool paint need suggestions on that. The front of the tank are very bad but the backs are in pretty good shape I will spin them and use the back.I will have to trim out the stand with 1x 6 so I will be running a center trim to hide the black in the center of the front. It will be a half version of the first picture

Well, for patching holes, you will just want a few scraps of acrylic and then a bit of Weld-on acrylic bonder. It is pretty easy from there, just kinda messy.

^^Good stuff.

That's the right way to do it... if you are workign "on the cheap" you can get away with plexiglas instead of acrylic and PVC cement as your binder...

Why do you want to paint the inside of the acrylic instead of the outside? Is that just to prevent the scratches and such from being noticed? If so they will not be very clear if you use a solid dark/deep blue paint on the outside... painting on the outside would allow you to use any paint you wish and I would suggest standard latex house paint...

Krylon Fushion is a spray paint that is designed to stick very well to plastics. Although the manufacturer does not list it as "potable safe" or "pond safe" or anything like this, many hobbyists have used it and proved it is fine for aquarium use.

Does "NON-TOXIC" count?

Are any of your paints toxic?

All Krylon® products are non-toxic when dry. When applying the paint, be sure to work in a well-ventilated area and follow the directions on the label.
"Krylon Fusion for Plastic" is designed to be applied without primer and it will bond to plastic. It has a fast tack-up time like 15 minutes and is dry in 60 minutes. That tells me in 1 hour after appying it, it becomes Non-Toxic and that is fishsafe to me...
I personally have painted pvc plumbing for In-Tank use and didn't wait quite the 1 hour and it had no ill effects.

I just need to know what I can use to cover the inside of the tank and yes they are that bad but they where free. They are for fry so they will have no substrate and I want them to look good.My fish room is my show room so I just want it to be clean and look nice. The tanks do not leak they are just rough and I think painting the inside and boxing then in will do so.Need to know what I can use on the inside?
thanks Bud

I contacted th amanufacturer and asked if their product was fish safe...

they responded saying their product is in no way tested on animals and therefore should not be considered fish safe...

But enough people have tried it to prove it is...

But that communication got me wondering how many other types of spray paint are aquarium safe and we just don't know it because they aren't animal tested and labeled as such...

But for this application... the Krylon Fushion for plastics is the way to go...
