I contacted th amanufacturer and asked if their product was fish safe...

they responded saying their product is in no way tested on animals and therefore should not be considered fish safe...

But enough people have tried it to prove it is...

But that communication got me wondering how many other types of spray paint are aquarium safe and we just don't know it because they aren't animal tested and labeled as such...

But for this application... the Krylon Fushion for plastics is the way to go...
Who did you talk to? When they say NonToxic, does that mean to humans? If that is the case, they test it on humans but not animals? Hmmmm...I need to have a word with those folks...

PM "nolapete" here at MFK, he can answer all your questions about what that stuff will or will not stick to...I'll shoot him a heads up.

Not all paints/sealents stick to plastic very well... You will have to check each product you are considering. The label should clearly state what they stick to well...

To adhere to acrylic you will want a paint/sealent that sticks to plastics quite well...

There is a HUGE difference between painting something that is going to be in the same room as you and it not being toxic... and painting the inside of a drinking glass and drinking out of it and it not being toxic... which is why contacting the manufacturer is always a good idea...

In my opinion, enough hobbyists have tested Krylon Fushion for plastics to verify it's aquarium safe... but here is my correspondance with them...

I asked:
I want to paint some plastic pipes used inside of a fish tank, and I typically look for products that state "for potable use" to ensure they are safe to use in the fish tank. I have heard rumors that Krylon Fusion Plastic Paint is aquarium safe, but I cannot find any information on your site giving me confidence in this.

So in short, is Krylon Fusion Plastic Paint aquarium safe? If so can you point me in the direction of some evidence to help me trust that it is?

Thank you,
Toby Hooker

They replied:
Toby,

Thank you for contacting the Krylon website. We don't have any paints in this line that are immersion-rated. We don't test on animals or for ingestion so I can't promise the safety of the fish.

Thanks again for your inquiry. Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Roger

The Permadri products Pond Coat and Rubber Coat (just marketing labeling from what I'm told) stick very well to acrylic. I'm using it in my 4300 gallon tank. The products are available through me and I can answer most questions you have. PM me and I'll try to get back to you ASAP.
