Hey guys. I have a 30g tank which I let cycle for one month. I added 3 Oscars almost 2wks ago. I had the water tested before I added the fish and they said it was perfect. The water seems cloudy to me even after water changes. I have that it can be normal. Is there anything specific I should check. I feel like a an overprotective mom just want to make sure everything is ok.

Did you add any ammonia/fish during the 1 month cycling?
Because if you just let the water run, nothing is cycled.

Also get your own test kit, liquid based.
LFS test ain't accurate and more often then not, they give false advice.

Plus 3 oscar isn't going to fit in a 30g for life, not even 1.
A full grown oscar would require about 70-100g

Agree with Spirit. How did you cycle your tank? Cloudy water might be a sign that the tank is still cycling.

I used the water conditioners and stress enzymes. Did not add any fish. I'm retarded for thinking the LFS gave me right advice when they said I shouldn't add any. I will get my own test kit as suggested. If in fact the tank is still cycling is there anything I can do to correct this. And I have no intention of keeping the fish in a 30g tank. They are very small still and I just wanted to get familiar with how to handle an aquarium at all so I decided to start small.

I dont agree with that.... I filled my 20g added a dose of Amquel let it sit for 3 days then added Eco Complete then let is sit for 4 more days the added, Pair of kribs, 7 lemon tetras, Dwarf Gourami. And nothing happened im perfect in every way but ph its about 7 and if i take out the drift wood i do about 5.. That was just 1 week.

Then you did not cycle your tank at all.

There are two ways to cycle a new tank - by using hardy fish or going fishless and using pure ammonia. Cycling takes 4-6 weeks and can be sped up using bacteria in a bottle (which isn't cheap).

Read the sticky above "Cycling and You"

I assume you are having a planted tank setup now? If the tank is heavily planted, it could work since plants would absorb those. Only problem is if your plants suddenly die out for some reason, there is no nitrifying bacteria established to help with ammonia and nitrite absorption and those would rise to toxic level. Anyhow what is your ammonia and nitrite readings?

Both are 0, ive done that for 5 different tanks in a row.. some with a lot of plants and some with 3. and it always works.
