This has got confusing i was trying to say 'Blennys are Blennys' and 'Mandarins are Mandarins'

You can see clearly in the post above i am stating that 'Mandarins are like blennys' thats were you went on your tirade about what they are.

Its like saying Tigers are like Lions..big cats then you going on a tirade about how thye are actually more like a jaguar or soemthing...its just pointless.

so there ya go..saved by confusion..when we moved from scooters to Mandarins.

sure ;)

except they aren't all that much like blennies. other than nominclature they have more behavior and physiology in common with gobies, hence my comment about ethological study, and the *small* down-fall of relying on written taxonomy

I'll give you this..somewhere in the mix I've confused myself.

here are some pics of the "purple thing" i watched it for ten minutes and its def. alive whatever it is. you can see it closed, then open. its also really sensitive to light, i have a little led flashlight and when i shined it anywhere near it it flinched. oh, and in the first picture you can see the one of like 5 or 6 crabs that are on this piece of rock.

i was going to comment on the crabs..

it does look a butt-load like a spiny (or similar) oyster
make sure to spot feed it if you want it to keep living..

i had a regular food oyster for about 3 months before i went on vacation and it died.. they are cool when you get to see one in 'action' lol

it looks dug into the rock (some of the older bivalves will do this, tridacna clams do this in the wild, instead of burrowing in sand like in a tank)

the crabs may just be free emerald or similar crabs, from the looks of them..
