The center piece comes out about 8 in, but is open behind it so you can hide all your intakes etc, in. The other cool thing is since its open it gives the fish a place to hide, but will make it hard when I try to pull any fish out. The tank is 120 gallons. 4' by 2'

I have the exact same background and love it. Your tank looks great! I like the fact that my female midas can get back there but my male can't. This model background looks a lot better than a divider IMO.

The trick with catching fish from back there is scoop up a bunch of sand and pour it back there so it's higher than the rest of the substrat and lower the water level. They have to swim out

Thanks Bryan! Been doing the background thing long enough to learn what not to do. Is that festae in your avatar yours?

Yeah its mine, she is about 3.5 - 4 in and just started coloring up.
