New 500gal dbl bullnose for my Atelomycterus marmoratus pair

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Both the tank and sharks look awesome. I noticed in both of your tanks you have little sand, why is that? Is it just the two sharks?

Thanks...and yes its just the two sharks. Years of freshwater keeping have made me hate substrate in general. 90% of my tanks are bare bottom so this is pushin it for me lol...i think its more than plenty for them. IMO deep substrate beds hold waste and can cloud the water when stirred up. I use just enough sand to get by so when the sharks move/stir it around it remains clean.

Looking good.
What you'll find in 'transfering' into this larger tank is that the aerobic bacteria colony will adjust it's size naturally to the volume of waste being produced. I'd say with the stock you have and the time you've allowed, it's a stable colony that will be able to grow quickly when you add the sharks. With only a couple sharks and such a large volume, you should have no issues at all with the transition.

Owned two marbled cat sharks a few years ago, both of them were females which surprised me when I would take out unfertlized egg cases;). Keep a extra aquarium on standby for your hatchery!!!

Thanks for sharing! Thats my end goal with this tank is for breeding. I already have the plumbing set up to chain in whatever extra tank i need :). Im debating between a 75 and 65 i have to use for the egg/pup tank.

Finally transferred my pair into their new home on thursday. It went pretty smooth and they seem to have taken it fairly well. The female snagged the clown fish the first night :) so all is well hopefully. I didnt expect any interest in food for a few days.

Great looking tank, the sharks look tiny in there. Are the damsels food or friends?

Thanks! and agreed the sharks do look tiny in the tank, its a good feeling they have room to stretch out now. They've each put on a good 3" since I got them almost a year ago. The damsels are both food and friends although they've eaten most of them lol...total snacks so far include 3 striped damsels, one blue velvet damsel, and one clown fish. I feed them every other day on prepared foods with supplements but I guess there still hungry :) .
