new 55 gallon...any ideas?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
just got a new 55 gallon tank, thinking about doing african cichlids but also thought it might be interesting to do a single predator, something unusual...maybe a rainbow wolf fish? i hear they only get about 8 inches...anyway, i am open to suggestions, i just really want to get some opinions before i go and buy something, curious as to what others would do...

just go with ur gut feeling :grinyes:

thanks for the suggestions, i've been doing some research and i'll definitely be going with africans, probably some altos and tropheus, and maybe some mbuna as well. seems like the most bang for the buck

You have lots of choices if you want Africans. There are the ones from Lake Tanganiya, Lake Malawi, and West Africa.

Usually, you don't want to mix lakes in your tank. In Malawi, there are Mbuna, Peacocks, and Haps. You can put Peacocks and Haps together, but better keep the Mbuna alone.

Auratus are Mbuna. With Auratus, as with most Mbuna, it is ideal to have 1 male with at least 3 females.
