New 55g drum for 25 tilapia and a few questions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yes i plan to eat them! So my cycle would be fudged up after I took them out.
Is that gravel in the top? and also lettuce? this gives me some ideas. I'll talk to my wife and see what she says about adding a hydroponic system in our office :) This is just something for me to do its not really about having the food. I needed something to do during my days off and after work and wanted something I could eat instead of look at. we have a 10g in the main room with 12 or so Galaxy Rasboras.
Yes gravel in the top, But You can Use almost anything You want for grow media. provided You sprout Your seeds elsewhere before putting them in the system. Once the setup matures Your cycle shouldn't fluctuate too much, as long as You continue to maintain Your bacteria colony. This can be done by feeding more than necessary, Or adding a few goldfish as dithers once You began to harvest. The key is striking a balance without reaching max capacity. that way You allow room for lack of a better term: error. leaf lettuce is great, basil, thyme or even a tomato plant would be good also although you would have lighting issues to address. But if You want to go with something that requires less work. You can go with pothos, ferns and various other houseplants. there are a ton of low light plants to choose from.
