I am setting up a new 55gal tank but I need a filter for it. I have been looking a Eheim, Fulval, and Marineland canister type filters. I have never used a canister filter. I have been looking at the Marineland C-360 filter but have heard mixed reviews about it! So I am needing y'alls recommendations on this! Any input would be helpful!

Also, what is a good substrate? I prob. won't have any plants!

Thanks

xp3 good NAME BRAND filter $105 ON AMAZON... IMO this is $ for $ best value on a can. filter anywhere I know of

My Rena XP3 has been fantastic. It makes a really good first canister too as it's easy to prime, operate and clean.

yes .. newly renamed ,but that is the equivalent of the xp3... good filter, great price JUST BE AWARE , you will have to add bio media(ceramic rings or similar).. but 2 boxes of fluval bio media(about $20) will be plenty for a 55.. at that price w/ bio ...still the best deal on a name brand can .,at least that I KNOW OF..:) AS FAR AS SUBSTRATE ,, a bag of pea gravel OR POOL FILTER SAND,, from home depot is cheap ($5-10),,and good....good LUCK, and post any new questions and updates

Thanks a bunch Lee!!!

I use a cascade 1000 on my 55 gallon and am very happy with how it has performed. Also sand is the only type of substrate I use!
