Hello everyone,
It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything. I’m starting a new build using a Pentair 600 gallon fiberglass tank with window. 8’x4’x30”. It’s going to be built into a wall in my basement. Just purchased the tank yesterday, it will be to my house next week. Current fish that are scattered throughout my basement in temporary holding are:
Motoro ray
2x vieja bifaciatus
Rainbow wolf fish
2 timensis peacock bass
5 red hook silver dollars
Spotted gar
Vieja synspilum
Ornate bichir
There will be more additions and potentially changes to the current list as the build progresses.
Planned filtration so far:
2x24” pool sand filters filled with k1
2x 110 gallon stock tanks, one filled with CER bio media blocks the other for naughty fish or a grow out for new additions
2x 55w UV sterilizers
Pleated bag filter on a timed cycle to help clarify the water.
100 gallon weekly water change.
I’ll keep everyone updated as the build progresses, lots of pictures. Building the wall and stand this weekend.

Sounds like a great project! I would think a larger water change will be necessary, especially when it gets filled up and the fish get bigger. Have you considered setting up a drip system so you can pretty much eliminate water changes?

Interesting,I have never heard of that nurse shark species.

That’s not a bad idea at all. I have extra peristaltic pumps I could do it with from a ace roto mold tank. I have poor water pressure in my house so a drip off the regular water line might make it even worse.

They were a great find. From my understanding there’s only one guy who collects them over there.
If I would have come across one of those years ago I might have stayed in the shark realm.

Does anyone have any experience using 55gal barrels filled with k1 media for a large setup like this? I also do aquaponics and we use these types of filters for the tilapia. I didn’t see why they wouldn’t work for this application.
