Going to be buying my filters and heaters for my new 75 tall soon (my first "big" tank!) and wanted some opinions.

For filtration I'm torn between an Eheim 2215 or two AC 50's (thinking this instead of one AC 110 for more evenly distributed water movement). In the long run i'd like to run HoB filters and a canister, but I need to start with one or the other.

As for heating I was looking at maybe trying two of the 200w ViaAqua stainless steel heaters with the external controls. Anyone have experience with these? I really like the idea of the external controls.

I've tried Jager heaters recently and wasn't real impressed with them.

Any input would be much appreciated!

I dont know how heavy you plan on stocking it but I would suggest 2 AC110's. Anything less than an AC110 wont fit over the rim of the tank properly (at least not on mine, I tried an AC70 when I first got it). I run 2 AC110's and a Rena XP3 on my 75. I use a Aqua System Visi-Therm Stealth heater and I have been happy with it.

You can get the AC110's from drsfostersmith.com for $33.99 if you use part # ck-120311

I agree with the 110s. You could probably order a 110 and use a 50 with it. It really depends on what you putting in the tank.

My 75g had a penguin 350 and an emp 400 and that worked great, over filtered and always clean.
Put the penguin 350 on another tank and now use an AC110 and an Emp 400.

I also love clean and always flowing water. You could probably get away with the 2 HOB filters depending on what you are going to stock it with.

Ok, double AC 110's sounds like the way to go. May add the canister later on for water polishing purposes.

As for stocking, it will be bichir, ropefish, african butterflyfish, and other medium sized oddballs to be determined.

Still curious about those ViaAqua stainless steel heaters for the external controls. The Visitherms are a possibility though, i've got one running in a 14gal tropical tank and it's done a good job.

2 Filters are always nice, spreads out the water flow and filters more water. I put 2 Whisper 60s from Wal-Mart on my 75 there like 30 bucks each..

You should be fine with the two ac110s and a canister

I like to use the plastic heaters so they don't cause heater burn and you don't have to worry about making a heat shield. For my XP3 canisters, I use the Rena smart heaters and hook up the inlet to them. Otherwise, I use Stealth heaters.

you don't have to worry about them blowing up, either
