New 75 gallon!!!! Please help!!

You really dont need the skimmer those are mainly used in saltwater setups The overflow box sits in the tank like a hob filter and is connect to the sump via the hoses a pump pumps the water into the tank from the sump and the water drains back down via the overflow box to the sump and is filtered inside the sump and pumped back up .There are many thread related to sumps on this forum as Im no expert

This was used for a Saltwater, Water flows into the overflow and out of the main tank into a sump (usually housed in the cabinet below the tank) and then pumped back to the main tank. The over flow is used so you don't have to drill your tank will holes for plumbing. When in the sump, the water gets filtered using bioballs, protein skimmer, filter socks, ect. The lights are used for stimulating coral growth, and you do not need all of this for fresh water. If you were planning on setting up a reef tank, I'd say yes because that's everything you need, but since you are not, don't buy it. You'd end up spending an extra $200 on things you don't need. A good price for a full 75 gal set up would be around $150.

That is a lot for a 75 setup, but you should be able to get a bit back from selling off the extra lighting and protein skimmer since you won't need them for a cichlid tank. You won't need any extra filtration, but adding a small canister full of mechanical filter pads and floss could help keep the water really clear

i paid 140 for my 75, wood stand and basic lighting with 2 emperor 400's and gravel.. i thought it was a steal. good luck
