update on the tank. put my first fish in tonight. my smallest and slightly beaten D. Comp presently just under 2 inches. If i'm right there should be plenty of time for it to put on some weight since i'll be adding the other 4 in as they become the lessers in the 30. So far so good, no nitrate, no nitrite, no ammonia and a stable PH of 7.9 with the typical hard water. some sort of seed must have come in with the substrate because i have what appears to be some sort of val growing from nothing. i'll post pics tomorrow.
