New 75g!!! What Big Bruiser to Put in it!?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have a big fene (vieja fenestratum), he is definateley one of my favourite fish.
One of the smartest and most idiosyncratic cichlids I have ever owned.
I would highly suggest one of these, although, given they are so smart, I wouldn't suggest one that has been wild caught, as they probably wouldn't adapt well to tank life.

I don't have a digi camera sorry, but mine pretty much looks like the picture found here:

Beautiful Fish, Pic's don't do them justice.
Of course I was very lucky to find one,
But if you're in a state with a bigger fish culture it might be easier.

Other than that, If I had a spare 75 and lots of money, I would try to find a young mated pair of flowerhorns. FH babies are fun to watch grow :)

Oh also, there's a guy on aquabid now selling babies of Gutattum crossed with synspillum. They will be beautiful fish once they pass the 5 in or so mark.
You could get a few of these babies and keep your favourite one.
Or get a bunch of baby vieja and try to get a pair.

I don’t think there is any “large” fish that would be good in a 75 for life. I don’t like keeping fish in a tank that would be considered minimum for the species. Having said that, there are many species available for a 75 that would be a great size for life while providing the desired effect. Amphilophus Lyonsi, Amphilophus Sp. Red Islets, Amphilophus Xiloaensis, ex. Cichlasoma Istlanum, Parachromis Motaguensis(Red Tiger Motas), Parachromis friedrichsthalli, Herichthys Carpintis, Green Terrors to name a few. These fish will generally remain at or less than 12” and will not looked cramped in a 75.

Good luck making your decision.

Gt, Texas, Midas, Flowerhorn. That is what i would do. Good luck.
