my first monster tank (always dwarg cichlids and oddball fish) so i need some help. i was looking at getting a female red terror. would i be able to house her for life in a 90? what else would mix well with her.

probly they don't get huge like males but still get big but grow slow ad in a 90 you probly won't be able to have any tankmates

thanks, i was thinking about it and if everything goes like it supposed to with the new job ill be making some good money in under 2 years, (six figure paycheck while still living at home with the rents), so if i get one it will give me a reason to get a bigger tank in 2 years. i was thinking maybe mixing her with a jag or jd. what do u guys think? will i be ok for 2 years if i get them as small as possible?

No mixing.A Female Festae is prime for a 90 gallon, and would make an excellent one-fish tank.Plecos can be added to clean up but make shure these species get at least 7 inches.

I don't know that I would trust a female festae in a 90 gallon with a pleco. I have always heard that females are more aggressive than male festae, and that's a pretty small tank.

I have a female Festae in a 90 gallon right now with a female Jag, a convict, and a juvy Texas. It is a great tank with no problems. Female festae don't get so big that they can't have tankmates (10-12 inches). It just depends on the aggression. Mine is the boss, but doesn't do any harm.

I thought the female festae got bigger than the male? this is not true?

I learned something today.

festaes are one fish that I wouldn't be sad if I had either gender.

No, males get much larger, 16-20 inches. A female hitting 12 inches is good size.

so generaly good tank for just the female and if i wanna risk it i could try introducing a jd or other large cichlid.

hmm any ideas for maybe 3 or 4 cichlids cause i never did like the single fish tanks but i love the festae colors. i would be happy with a mix of 3 or 4 colorfull cichlids, any ideas?

If you like festae colors, check out firemouths and salvini. I've seen some incredible female salvini's. Blackbelts are beautiful as well. A full grown JD is a site to behold. Those are my suggestions, have fun!
