New 90 Gallon SW - Need Help!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hello everyone,

I am still waiting for a few supplies prior to filling the tank (which is currently inhabited by EBJDs and Fronts).

A guy at the LFS said the EHEIM 2227 is not enough for the tank and I would not be able to maintain the livestock. Do you guys agree?

The plan is to have 70lbs of live rock, Live sand, UV sterilizer, Eheim 2227, and a few powerheads.

What do you guys think? Mr Reef?

If you have enough live rock ( about 1 - 1.5lbs of live rock per gallon of tank water ), you wont need the filter..

Regarding your specific filter ( EHEIM 2227 ), i would say its not big enough for filtration of a 90 gal tank..

I think you should skip the eheim and do a fluval 305 for the tank everything else sounds good except I didn't see you mention a protein skimmer.

The product description says for up to 92 gallons... :(

Eheim's are just a pain to work with compared to a fluval there tubing isn't as reliable or lasting. They don't prime easily and just get to you fast.

I think you should go with an fx5 and forget about the pumps.the fluval will be both your pumps and filter. You can get them on ebay brand new for like $230 shipped
