alright im putting my 90 in my room today its just a stand and tank i need filter, heater, power head, and substrate

what should i get as far as heater? how many watts?
how many gph power head?
what canister filter is rated to around 200 gallons?
is there any thing wrong with putting berly enough gravel to cover the glass like almost no gravel maby 10 pounds on the bottom?

300w heater, I like visitherm deluxe, stealths (only up to 250w for stealth) and jagers are popular and reputable but I haven't tried them myself, Rena Top Light Excel looks to be good too

I would use at least around 300gph for a powerhead, I love my Maxi-Jet 1200 (295gph)

the Rena XP3 and Eheim 2217 canisters come to mind but I think they are rated for 175 and 159-160 respectively

nothing wrong with just a little gravel but perhaps sand or fine gravel would be better for a small amount

I would go with one canister (XP3 or 2217) and one HOB power filter (AC110 or Emporer 400). As for heaters... anything between 200-250 watts would be great. I use eheim jagers, but have also heard great things about Stealths.

The 300 watt should be fine. I've run the visitherm delux before and it works well. We used the jager heaters at the LFS I used to work at they are also good, and I use hydor for my big tank, 2 400 watts and they are awesome. They make smaller wattage ones as well as in line heaters. I would recommend the Rena XP3 with 1 pack of Rena Ceramic Rings, Rena FilStars, white Polyfiber pad, and the brown ammonia pad also both Rena. you won't need a powerhead with the rena unless you just want a ton of flow. Use the power jet return nozel if you want a powerhead style current or use the spray bar(my choice) to create a wider current still with good flow also. ~Trent

would it be okay to cycle with an emporer 400 then make a sump or buy a canister when i get some more cash? or would it cause cycling problems and cause a spike when i get the second filter?

another vote for the Rena XP3 and an Ebo Jager.

I hear great things about the Stealths but I am reluctant to try because I like an indicator light on my heaters..it doesn't have one I am told..

ps If you are looking at a hang on tank filter for the back, I would strongly recommend an AquaClear 110 over the Emperor. The AC has way way more media and is just as powerful.

by definition, I am not a fan of cartridge insert filters compared to cannisters or an Aquaclear - that little cartridge will clog fast when you have 90 gallons worth of fish in there :) I don't think the cartridge filters like the Penquin, Emperor or Whisper hold nearly enough media..

If you do run a hang on the back be sure it has a bio wheel of some kind, on my hang on the back for my 55 I added some Rena ceramic rings that I had left over into the bottom of it for a little added good bacteria to grow on ~Trent

any advice on getting the tank up to my bedroom? i mean seriously my dad and i just tryd and its nearly imposable for me and him to get the thing up the stairs.
