New Addition: Pangasius larnaudii

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Tank too small, something bothering him outside of the tank?

He's currently 4" (already put on 0.5" in 2 weeks!) and the tank is a 30 tall growout (24"x12"x24"). It's in the family room but there's no sudden movements by the tank. I should be moving him to my 75 gallon (48"x18"x20") in 1-2 weeks as another growout until I can get him into at least a 72"x24" tank as a long term growout or a large indoor pond at least 8'x6' but probably bigger. So I don't really see space being an issue for a few years :).

Can't get any better pictures, he just won't stop swimming against the side, been like this practically all day!

The photos in post #23 are clear enough and the larnaudi looks just like mine.

The dingus stole 2 algae wafers from my Blueye Ancistrus and carried them around in his mouth like frisbees for a while .

On a side note, any name suggestions are welcome, preferably something to do with either being a shark or eating a lot is what I'm trying to stick to.

Well, since you mentioned it,Dingus sounds as good as any lol!

I'm going to second Dingus. He looks like a Dingus to me now.

It's got the black ear, right? I cannot see it in the pics. That's all that matters for the ID at this point, I'd think. The base color varies.

Swimming against transparent and semitransparent surfaces appears typical for IDS. I noted the only time mine don't do it is in ponds, presumably because the walls are non-transparent. I presume this can be the same for launardi albeit they are from different genus.

It could be a mating / migrating instinct kicking in but your fish's too young for that, I think.

If he is only rubbing, it's not as bad as slamming, but still can get a sore on the snout if done extensively.

If you add more current, a powerhead, it may lessen or stop this behavior as he will get plenty of exercise otherwise.

Yes, he does have the black ear. He won't slam on the glass but he will swim for long periods of time up and down the glass, actually he's doing it as I'm typing this.
