Correction, a Loisellei. BTW how big is the tank she's in? Any problems with the tankmates yet? I'm just curious to see what I can or can't add to my tank.

It's a 150 (5x2x2), I would suggest you keep a good eye on a midas if you add one. I have been very lucky with mine, she has generally been great with tankmates with a few exceptions.

The midas was right at the freddy having a look the minute I added her. Then the freddy got the usual "I'm the boss" nudging and that was it. All peace and harmony now. The pike was in having a look, being nosey but it isn't big enough to do anything yet.

djb, I will try today as I will have extra light coming in from the wndow to help me.

beautiful fish.. looks very healthy and already settled in too...lots of luck..and keep the updates coming.

I think it is going to be a matter of waiting until she settles a bit more and eats properly because I am finding pictures on google images of freddies that are the spitting double of her with regards to pattern and shape. She has more yellow than the picture but one of them is of a male wild caught freddy, ichthyoid.blog.com and also http://www.cichlidae.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=7811&hilit=friedrichsthalii&start=20 (the last picture, same pattern, shading, a bit less yellow but that one is smaller).
Even other examples are just like her but with more colour which is not surprising seeing as she hasn't been in the tank that long and hasn't even eaten a full meal yet, just 2 or 3 pellets per meal which is an increase.

I will admit I am hesitant to believe it is a Mota because of the source, a vendor on EA Cichlids who got them from Rapps or Conkel (he buys from good sources), so I am inclined to trust him due to the the fact he has a whole site of cichlids nuts dedicated to him who have strong ties to the British Cichlid Association.
However, I also know that these fish are far more common across the pond so identification between the 2 breeds will be 2nd nature to some of you which is why to be fair I am going to wait a while and come back for a positive ID. It is the only way to be 100% positive because I know these 2 breeds can be hard to tell apart when young and she is only just 5" ish so still very young.
Please do not feel as though I am completely discounting your experience or advice.

Your help is very much appreciated guys and I thank you for sharing. Thanks for the kind words from everyone else.

Ii now what your saying i am just trying to help on its id the gold motaguense and the freddie are more comminly mixed up than any of the other species in the parachromise family and its an honest mistake either way its a realy nice fish ad i honestly do belive its its a gold mota looking foward to seeing more pictures

Thought I would throw in a few update pictures. Her colour is really coming on now and her eating is becoming more substantial and frequent. She has broke one of her canines off and it left a bit of a sore but that seems to be healing well now after some melafix to prevent infection.
She is still very shy when people are moving around the tank and she does hide a lot but that is improving as her confidence grows.
