After spending most of my life dealing with fish that can not stand each other I now find myself loving fish with a kinder, gentler disposition. And I have learned that cichlids are not the only group of fishes to contain hundreds and hundreds of species. Here are today`s newest, Panda Barbs.

Please ignore the Odessa male showing off for the camera.

Nice mini monsters. Will be tearing up those flakes/bloodworms soon.

Community fish are nice but soon you will miss the aggression from those predator fishes :D there almost no personality with those bards, it's just a bit more fun at feeding time when everyone try to grab their share of food without killing each other.

I never said I was gonna flush my cichlids down the toilet, just that I am enjoying having more than one mature fish in a tank without them killing each other. Also if you watch them without assuming them to be mere feeders you will find out they can be interesting subjects. They have squabbles but don`t remove scales or lips to settle them. I have yet to come into the room to find my favorite fish floating on it`s side it tatters of worse, dead.

I will always love my CA cichlids but at this point my blood pressure is high enough without my fish driving it higher.

I have a lightly planted 40 gallon tank with 8 corys and 25 neon tetras I love watching. I'm thinking of adding another 10 neons. They look great against the black background.

I don't know about that... my Betta Channoides might disagree with you there as they have tons of personality and are somewhat community fish... great fun watching them in my community tank come out of hiding whenever they see me to come close to their tank...

hahaha I got a tank full of exodon, another tank with ton of other tetra species and they almost ignore me when I come and sit in front of the tank watching them, they would only react when they saw me walk to the spot that I usually drop the food in for them but with my cichlid tank it's totally different, it doesn't matter if I'm gonna feed them or just watch them, they always come to the glass and look at me like "hey, you gonna feed me or we gonna do a staring contest with each other?" :D

^ hahahahahah, thats exactly like my bettas, they all crowd around having staring contests with me till i either feed them or walk away...

This thread got me interested in getting some filament barbs now. Thanks.

I did`nt really expect my barbs to beg like my cichlids but they do, right along with the Yoyo loachs. They are like Oscars in that respect, they are never satisfied. Even when swimming around with un-swallowed bloodworms sticking out of their mouths they keep trying to cram more in.

kno4te, Filaments are on my list of must haves. Please post pics when you get them.
