New African Cichlid Tank - Video

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yes lol I have slate in both my tanks. I love it can never go back. And yes it is definitely hard to find because most lfs's label their electric blue cichlids and electric blue ahli's which is funny because a blue ahli is a sciaenochromis ahli and they don't look as cool they are more dull... If you look up sciaenochromis fryeri that is the most common cichlid that the lfs stores sell saying it is a "ahli." I personally think the s. fryeri looks better as it is way more blue and looks really nice as opposed to the dull s. ahli. Why don't you post a pic of the fish and I can try and see if it is indeed an ahli or fryeri or just look them up and see which it is :P Hopefully it's an ahli its worth a lot more :D Good luck.

From looking at both of those pictures he is definitely more like the ahli. Very distinct black bars and the exact same yellow in tail and fins. I have a picture of him in my avatar as well as a bigger one two threads ago where he ended up being id'd as an ahli. What would you consider "worth alot more" out of curiosity. I picked him up at 4.5" for $15 CAD.

4.5" for 15 dollars? Nice! Very good price lol. S. Fryeri are really common and 4.5" for $15 are a hell of a deal, but an s. ahli would probably be around 30ish. Depends on the person.. I have bought and sold from 20-50. That does have distinct bars in your avatar although it is very blue to be an ahli. It could still be an ahli though. Never the less $15 for a fish like that is a damn good price! good luck m8 :P

Good looking set up! watch out for your Melanochromis auratus I have an adult male and he is VERY aggresive towards EVERYONE!!! lol.... hes for sure my tank bully.

Otherwise nice looking tank I like the rock work a lot.

No he is not far off and it depends on what frontosa, but ahli's are harder to find I mean they aren't extremely hard, but they aren't common by any means. Good luck with the fish :D
