New African Tank - opinions please!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If we are going to use only coloration to detemine the ID of a fish I could see the arguement that it is a yellow lab. Black with yellow, but since it is too elongated to be a yellow lab, there is no reason to get into the genome discussion of labs. Also, on that note, not all genes are visible expressed in an offspring. So it may in fact not be a purebreed lab and get fry that looks like a lab, when mixed with a purelab.

So since I referenced material that is tested, I lack experience? Wow, just trying to call a person out on in experience? Well that would not work this time. I was giving him material to look for a reference. You posted a picture without any other fact checking. Who know what your lab looks like. Who know if that lab of yours is purebreed. What I do know is the reference I used it commonly read and has a measure in place to correct any misinformation. So before you climb on your high horse, think of this: Anyone can given an opinion, but backing your opinion up with other material is much better. So stop trying to attack my abilities because you are unable to see the difference in a yellow lab (labiochromis) from a melanochromis.

Bobleflaad,

Your fish doesn't appear to be full yellow Lab. The shape of the mouth and coloration aren't right. And yes, I have kept and bred quite a few yellow Labs over the years.
