good point, I have also heard people say this. I am trying to get a line on black for really cheap... if so I am sure the person will be selling it... sorry I know, no help in the UK... I say go with what you like... not what others think... thanks for sharing your thoughts, I like letting people see a lot of different opinions...

i have beach sand on as my substrat and it looks great..and yes its more dirty and dificult to clean than pool filter sand..but looks more natural and fish really like it cause its more ''soft''
the values of your water will depend on wish lake you choose to set your tank..although you can mix fish from both lakes it's not recomended.
and the light is not much a problem but most AC prefer low lighting
