New aimara pick up

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
After a few days in, now things have settled down and the new pecking order has been established. The pleuro is healing very quickly and keeps to himself now. And you are absolutely right DB junkie DB junkie , the dorado is now like a fly on the wall without a single scratch and still eats the most and fastest when it's feeding time. This tank is a temporary situation for them. It's only a 180x50x65 dimension which is quite cramped indeed. I'm looking to move all my fish to a super sized FGT tub or custom 4/5m X 1.2m tank sometime in the relative future. I'm amazed at how everything is calm for the most part in my tanks right now. When I housed my Arowana, she always bullied everyone.

Beautiful! I'm more concerned for the pleuro than the dorado. If he learns who's the boss, then the situation may work out.

Here's an update: I have removed both the Armatus and the pleuro as I watched the aggressive behavior of the aimara. Poor pleuro took the brunt of all the beating. I must say he is a soldier and has withstood a weeks worth of non stop bashing until I now have him in my friends tank which is currently healing up in. Thank goodness he was much thicker and bigger than the aimara. Otherwise Would prove fatal..

Now that they are moved, rest of the inhabitants all get along. The Mala and aimara and next to each other all the time squeezed in between with the ornate bicher. My aimara does try to bite the dorado if he swims too close sometimes but never manages to ever land one since the dorado is literally an underwater bullet. Overall things have settled down and going well in this tank.

Side note, does anyone know if my aimara resembles an amapa catch point? He seems overly black.. Barely any visible brown and he's only 13".

Venezeula ones can get as dark as that too.

From what I gathered, Amapa variants has thicker bands and lighter brown (during their relaxed mode) and lesser spots on the face.

Looks amapa to me. Amapa variants are usually always very dark, where as Venezuelan when in a light colored environment will get the tan color and the bands, they don't get as dark as amapa either. DB has amapa in his bright tanks and his is still practically jet black. This seems to also be the case for yours.
