New albino red oscar stressed new home

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
First you said it's a new fish, so may be still settling in.

Have you seen it's poop, is it normal?

Any outward signs of issues? Clamped fins, rapid breathing, obvious damage to the fish, missing scales, sores?

Does it have hides? Any other fish in the tank? My Oscar perfers dimmer lights. Maybe some dithers may help since it's so young yet.

Thanks Jexnell
Waste is normal not white, he is the only fish in tank with 2 small pleco ,body is good no scratch or fin problem also colour stay deep orange ,seem a bit heavy breathing
Just done a 50% water change and wait to see any improve thanks again
Will up load some pics later when the tank is all clear

Ya it's just a baby yet. A fish that small in the open in the wild is bird food.

See if you can dim the lights some. Maybe add some floating plants for more cover. I forget who but a member here said Albinos don't like bright lights due to thier general lack of pigments.

Also you can try dithers. A tall bodied tetra, barb type schooling fish. Have to be careful here since you have an Oscar. They grow so fast thier mouth can out grow the dithers and they turn into food. I used Denison barbs till one was eaten then changed to silver dollars.

BTW cute little O you got there, best of luck to you.

So that u mean can try to add some more peacful fish into the tank to make Oscar feel more secure??

I was thinking of tall body tetra like Black skirts. You will get about six months before the O's mouth out grows them.

In the wild schooling fish swimming about give baby cichlids confidence that no bigger predators are around. So they come out more.

Update today: have done water change yesterday and I put some aquarium salt as well , today seem better he has come up to the surface and eat 2 pellet then hide back
