i just recieved a baby alligator from backwater reptiles. i didnt read any reviews on them untill after i ordered from them. i've had him since saturday and he still has not eaten anything, i offered him a pinkie he's about 14-15 inches. but he has like some white fearthey looking stuff under his mouth and his legs and tail. im pretty sure its a fungus but what do i do to get rid of it. one person i talked to said scrub it off with a toothbrush and dishsoap. any body ever did this does it work. i have him in a 75 gal with a turtle dock and filter. its got about 6-7 inches of water in it and a heat light. he also said i should put a little bleach in the water not when the gator is in it but to kill germs in the tank then do a water change. you guys think this will work20120702_105519.jpg

i didnt say he was in a 75 gal tank that hes going to live in for the rest of his life so...

I'd say bring it to a vet. Bleach will not work in my opinion. It is a caustic substance that should not be tossed around randomly.

yeah ill go to a vet a see whats up. the bleach was to kill the fungus in the tank not while the gator was in it. just to let it cycle in there while everything else as far as decarections an rocks and so on. so i wouldent have to break it down and spot clean thats all. then drain and refill it.

Yes put a whole bottle of bleach in alligators don't belong in 75 gallon tanks

This guy can be such a troll!

I've used bleach to wipe down tanks and cleanse only in more extream situations. Just add alloy of prime in there then water change then alot of prime. But I don't quite think that that needs to be a first option

Also, if it's a foot, or more, that's hardly a hatchling. It would be about half that, if it truly was a hatchling. Did you try contacting the person you got it from, about this? Or did this develop after you got it?

Vet is gonna be your best bet. Clean off what ya can, but remember crocs stress easily. About it not eatting, thats not that big of a deal yet. It will take awhile for it to get settled before it starts eatting, and the stress of clearing this might prolong it.

no the guy i got it from turned out to be a drop shipper from out west and the gator came in from the orlando area. the site was backwater reptiles what i did was cancel the order because it was taking like a week and then the guy emails me and says it will be there the next day and it took two more days before it came so there bad for business and i notcied the fungus as soon as i put him in the tank.being this size how old do you think it is because i was told it was a hatchling when i ordered it. this prime where d o i get it from would this help the gator or just for cleaning only.

How did you pay? You should file a claim with your CC or paypal, at least. Or even pursue Backwater reptiles.
It's probably 4 or 5 months old.
