i recently aquired 3 angelfish which have quickly outgrown my 20 gal long deciding on a new tank but i dont know alot about angels. because of financees weve decided to either go with a 56 gl cube or a 55 long......i know angelfish like tall tanks would any of you recomend one over the other?

55 gallon - 48 X 12 X 21 56 Cube - 30 X 18 X 25
Although the cube is a bit wider and a couple of inches taller, the 55 gallon aquarium will give your fish a bit more swimming room.

the narrow footprint doesnt matter? i thought that may be an issue heree but ive never owned full grown angels so i dont know what to expect. also what type of filtration would you recomend since i have read that they dont like strong flow. i probably should have posted this thread to the setup and filtratin forum

the 55 is a really good angelfish tank, not knowing the cube ,I would go 55 .as filtration goes,if you keep the stock light or medium I would do 2 ac 70s or1 ac 70 and a sponge filter on a SMALL powerhead,so you dont stess the angels with flow

ill look into those, im not a fan of sponge filters but in a larger tank maybe i can hide it behind the sttump ive got picked out. now i am completly new to angels anything in particular i should know? i get lots of conflicting info on aggressiveness online...so for now i have them with faster fishes and bottom dwellers....also i have three diff body shapes idk what names are one i know to be a vieltail. all were bought at petsmart around xmas and have been in a heavily planted tank since

When I first bought my angels they were are about 1" to 1 1/2". They are now all over 4". I had them in a 48gl breeder tank with my 12 Panda Cory and Tetra Rasboras. But noticed them chasing the rasboras...and found out rasboras are their 'natural' food out in nature! Ooops! They also were bullies to the cory, and kept eating the corys' bottom feeder tablets!...?....This made me really wonder what was going on. I invested in a 75gl for them last summer. Since then, I have found out that they'll eat just about anything I feed them. ***Also, that once they are old enough to 'pair off', the females are very territorial. I've given away 2 females, and kept all 6 males. They seem to get along very well now.

I think Angel fish are only weak swimmers when they are smaller, like under 2". After they grow a bit, to around at least 2" and they have gained strength from being able to swim around in a larger aquarium, they seem to do as well as any fish. I have Aqueon 55's on my 75gl. They swim right by the intake without any problem. When I got my first 2 Angels, I made the mistake of putting them into a 20gl with strong filtration. Needless to say, I lost one of them within the first hour...my bad - felt totally stupid and so sorry for that fish. Crumby way to learn a lesson...

I grew my angels up in a 56 column, its a cool looking tank but as suggested above; a 55 will give you more options down the road. I believe that a standard 55 would be the way to go.
