New Antenna Ray (male)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Awesome ray! I'm so curious about the antenna rays; there's so few people anywhere keeping them, that I'm almost starting to think they're the holy grail of rays!
How do you find their behaviour when compared to your other rays? Do they ever bury like other rays? How is their activity, more open water swimming?

x2 on knowing more. Your ray is still incredible even if the tail is broke. The only rays that I have with full tails were captive bred. All my wildcaught rays have some tail damage I think.

rays looking good, don't worry about your post. I believe mosy people were kidding as was I. Just giving you a hard time. COngrats again though, hope you have many many pups.

Looks great!!!

Thanks for all the nice comments! I promise more pics in the summer holidays!
I've found that Plesiotrygon iwamae have different behavior when compared to that of a Potamotrygon species, they tend to be much more active day and night, usually climbing up and down the side of a tank. In captive conditions, they hardly ever bury themselves just like any other FW ray. Another thing that I have noticed is that the structure of their cartilage near the head is different, it seems more protuded. Newly imported specimens are most likely only adapted to eating live crustations which may be the cause of why they are hard to keep. Finally, the myth about they dying after their tails break has been officially BUSTED, it is not true.
