You DIY set up is a master piece. Great job. For sure your fish love you for it. May we see your custom filtration system?
current filter is a aqua one 2400 canister filter
and a 200 litre plastic drum set up as a wet and dry filter running pumice and bio balls
this has an overflow from the tank that drops into another plastic bucket suspended in top of drum with filter wool and bio balls, drilled holes in bucket to allow water to drop into the drum which is full of pumiceon top of a plasyic grate
under that is an ehiem pump which pumps back to tank through 1" hose and spraybar back into tank
need to pot in another overflow as the top of tank isn't being skimmed properly
running a seio powerhead on the floor to move detritus accumulation
water changes are done with cold spring water into tank

need more fitration on the big aro tank so have modified an old 200l plastic drum i used to store water in
trimmed down an old plastic milk tray for a base to the filter
cut some offcuts of shower lining to fit inside as a central divider
lightly sanded the plastic to help the silicon to adhere to sides
pushed the drum out of shape a bit to get a tight fit

filling with pumice pieces in layers for media
