New arrival Firemouth breeding group pics

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Larry, Thanks for the kind words.
I am sooo glad that they made the long trip to the Islands from the Mainland. Aloha!
The flaring in the pic is not territorial. It is the Alpha male trying to establish dominance over the pack. Once he beats the rest of them in jaw locking and flaring threat displays they will calm down. He will dominate 2/3's of the system and the rest will inhabit the other 1/3. After this he will then concentrate on a female to spawn with.

I strongly suggest blacking out 3 sides of the tank. This makes the fish less likely to spook and they will color up even more against the darker backgrounds.

I would offer an extra pot or 2 for shelters. It will help some.

I am currently working on a hatchery based pellet food that I will be selling in bags soon. I am seeing great growth with the bulk pellets mixed with spurilina.

I am setting up a 180g for the 25 6th gen fry that are amazing. They will be better in size and colors then the ones you have in about 9 months. I can't wait to grow these guys out!!! Maybe this set will mutate an albino fry.

One other thing I would add is a strong air pump and airstone. These guys are 5" fish so the extra aeration will help the tank alot.

This pic illustrates the colors Larry is seeing...

There will be plenty more territories and driftwood added. I just havent had time to put it in. It was a rush set up. Im workin 16 plus hour days. I am going to add a air disk as well. They are settling in quick. Those pics were taken really quick. I will add better ones later when I have time. I cant wait to see those fry when they grow out!

these are what in my opinion a firemouth should look like,i haven't seen fish of this quality for over 20 years! We def need some wild caught stock to make their way around the uk! Congrats i know you will enjoy these beautiful cichlids:D
