So I just got an asian banjar red arowana for my 250 gallon pond. Here it is. (the water marks are because he's been jumping a lot.) uploadfromtaptalk1364544519497.jpg

I also have a question. The mesh cover is temporary and I would like to construct a fence about 2 feet high around the fish pond. Would 2 feet be adequte because I dont want to anything above that. Being an asian arowana I assume the jumping height is less?

Start w/ 30"....just a tad higher. Maybe have the top angled in a little bit like the fences at a race track.
A couple floating plants may help as well.

This....

You need to make if fall back in the water when it jumps, and it will jump. And jump high.

You'll need a hight fence than that. Aros are very high jumpers.

i agree, especially if you put an aro into a big pond and the aro still quite small, and if your pond are quite deep, they tend to jump more.i think almost 3 feet is not too much

Why don't you get a 250 gallon glass tank instead of a small pond -- that way, you can have a full view of your fishes.

yes,i agree about using tank rather then pond.BUT,arowana that kept in tank will almost surely have dropped eye(s),soon or later, compare to an aro that live in pond that usually have lower percentage to have dropped eyes.don't know why too..
