New asian arowana

yes,i agree about using tank rather then pond.BUT,arowana that kept in tank will almost surely have dropped eye(s),soon or later, compare to an aro that live in pond that usually have lower percentage to have dropped eyes.don't know why too..

That would be because arowanas in a tank will generally be up closer to our eye level and then they would have more things to look at below as people/animals walk past. So by looking down a lot, they will develop droop eye. Whereas in a pond, most of the people/animals walking by would be above them. Not to mention insects and what not would be above the water surface. Thus, by looking up a lot they are less likely to get droop eye.

I originally had the pond built for goldfish but the birds got those. So I redid everything and then I got an arowana. Also would 2.5ft fence be high enough to keep an asian arowana in?

drop eye develops when the arowana is unhealthy: small tank, cheap fat unbalanced food, attacks from below.
arowana's tend to jump 6 feet when in the wild when they're, say outgrown. asians get almost as big as silvers, and as they jump with the same move, making an s shape with the body, i think they jumping hights maybe the same. maybe the asians can jump higher, they look stronger then silvers. maybe put a net on the pond, that will keep it in for sure.
or make an 8 foot enclosure, that is the safest option, if you dont wnat to spoil your view on the pond.

Asians do not get near as big as Silvers...

Asians only get up to 3ft max. I highly doubt they can jump as high as a silver. I've seen arowana farms use fences that are about 2ft-2.5ft.

I'd definitely look into a dome type cover to keep him in and any predators out. You already know it can happen

That pond looks like it might be a bit small for him as he gets bigger. Nice fish though! :)
