New Asian Arowana

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Interesting question I’d like to bring up:

is it possible and done before, to put freshwater clams into a sump? I was thinking of putting clams in my sump, since clams and oysters are know to help clean and filter water.
I’d like to try it in my arowanas aquarium

I think that would be a good idea. I’m interested to see if it works.

I have had 5 clams in my 5 ft planted tank with discus. I think I have too little clams to have any effects. In addition, because it is a planted tank, I didn't know the clams died until I dug them out. And the process of checking them created a cloud of mess. Maybe if you just throw them in the bare part of your sump tank for ease of monitoring.

might be better off thinking of clams adding to the bioload rather than cleaning the water. They do produce wastes and add nitrates. I think fine particles are best filtered through mechanical means.

I have added bamboo shrimps before (although I don't think they will survive in an arowana tank). They are much more interesting to look at and they like to position themselves at outlet flows to catch the debris coming out.

19” Florida gar, large enough (unlike last time) so the Asian aro can’t kill it. Small compensation for the 3 stolen bichirs (read my other thread), but still can’t fill the emptiness in me ?.
Will probably get some tiger/red hooks to make the tank seem more active as well.

The gar eats like a beast, eating 3-4 whole market prawns at one go. Currently my most favourite and chill fish in the tank. Datnoid turned dark in colour and stopped eating the past 2 days though, probably slight stressed

My last straw. My arowana attacking my datnoid and gar. Now my gars tail is tattered. I’ve decided to sell my arowana, and find a less aggressive one/ switch to peacock bass.
can anyone teach me how to catch an arowana without harming it? I’ve seen people use a plastic bag and guide it.
