There's no need to downgrade filters. You just need to diffuse the current. It works and through my experience with my baby black plant cover has been very important. That'd where he spends his time every day.

I agree plant cover is important, but wouldn't the plant cover just blow around? the AC 110 is 13.5" long, the tank is 30" long. The filter is almost half the length of the tank.

Add a lot of cover and get a piece of floating cork.

Attach the plastic plant to the intake of the filter, or get so many plants that they cant move around.

I would be concerned with the intake also. Best to cover with a prefilter spong.
