hello, I had a question about feeding for this guy, its getting pricey giving him clam on a half shell everyday, I was wondering if anyone knew of any pellet options I can go with? maybe like a massivore delight pellets by hikari?
In all the years I’ve been keeping puffers only one ate pellets it was a Tetradon baileyi

Chances are yours will not eat pellets

You can feed frozen foods like krill, filet, some frozen uncooked shrimp

The reason for feeding clam ina half shell is to maintain its teeth
This does not have to be fed at every feeding

Personally I like to feed my puffers earth worms and mix it up with frozen krill blood worms and live black worms live snails

thanks for the info, you dont think he will eat pellets even if I starve him for a couple days?

I agree probably not but it’s not impossible

Took me over a year of training to get my hairy to eat pellets

Starving imo isn’t a good way to do this

ill try slowly trying pellets a couple days a week see how he responds, i know many people who claim to feed there puffer pellets

Fahakas in particular are extremely aggressive and avid hunters. Mine won’t even take frozen shrimp unless I dance them around a bit. I feed bloodworms, frozen shrimp, live snails that I breed, live ghost shrimp and live crawfish. They need hard foods like shell fish to keep their beaks down. The last thing you’ll want to have to do is trim a beak yourself. Frozen shrimp, snails, and bloodworms are all pretty cheap. On average I spend about $30 a month feeding my guy. The craw fish are the most expensive thing at $3 a piece so they’re given once a month as a treat.

thank you for the advice, ill try dangling some blood worms see how that goes, I actually just added 2 geophagus hundae in to tank and they seem to be getting along great lol the puffer chases them occasionally but or else its pretty interesting
