New baby micropeltis

ah sweet, ill remember to freeze them. and a few months sounds good, I think in that case im going to grab a few more Thursday and with any luck ill end up with a pair. I decided to build a smaller plywood tank now instead of buying a 150 or a 220gallon glass,It will be cheeper, im thinking 8'x2'x2' than ill have over a year to build tank like your but out of plywood. I like plywood tanks better imho. win win, cheeper and I like it better. that usually isn't the way things work, Ialways seem to like the most expensive of everything, even when I don't know the price of said item. I look at a group of ten things, say, oh that ones nice... 9/10 times its the most costly item on the list lol

I see no problem with plywood, My 240 is a plywood coated with liquid rubber & glass front,it works great and i also really like the look (and like things cheap) . My next couple builds will also be plywood one an 8' the other a 10' tank.

My advise is to go bigger right away, No point building a 8x2x2 just to replace it a year later, doubles the cost (plus you might end up in the mess I've hit where you need to build the bigger one where the smaller one is sitting lol). It would cost VERY little extra to expand tank for a 3' wide (or 4' if you have space) probably would even work out to the same number of plywood sheets any way just less waste. If your adding width and not height it wont effect the glass thickness and you wont need to worry about replacing it next year!

Another tip, if you do go with wider then 2' try to leave space behind the tank wide enough for you to squeeze in there for any maintenance type activities. Reaching over a wide tank to get something in the back is difficult , not to mention how nerve racking it is to have monster fish eyeballing you as you stretch over the tank I've had a channa lunge up a my face while doing this, my aro also will fire up at anything above the tank lol

The only reason I plan to build the smaller one now is because I don't have the space here, im a student at BCIT and living at my folks place, and they wont let me build the larger tank to be honest, the big one wont fit in the spot I have available for my fish tank, as well as packing up the huge tank to move provinces will be a pain, so ill build one half the size for now, and then build the full size one later, then ill have this smaller tank im building now for salt water lol don't want to let things go to waste you know lol.

yesterday I noticed the snake head swimming really odd, up and down and size to side, looked like something neurological or something, didn't look like he was using his tail fin anymore either, just the side fins and spinning in the current in my tank instead of stabilizing himself like before, this morning I wake up and check to see if hes doing better, and hes dead. I did a water test yesterday and my water is hard but everything else is good, well nitrates where high but I did a partial water change, and all the other fish are great, I guess I must have gotten some infected feeder fish and he got sick and died on it? anyone had this happen? :( I called the shop today and no channa came in and hes not sure if he can get anymore..... freaking hell.... back to the drawing board, called another guy I spoke to before getting this guy, he said hell check his suppliers today and let me know tomorrow if he can track some down for me. Ill find out tomorrow, said hes got some suppliers who ship to him every week from china and tialand and he thinks he might be able to track down some channa but not sure which.

sorry for ur loss man .if u have to use live in the future just quarintine them and treat the tank before u use them .

will do, thx for the tip. I went out and picked up a 2nd hand water filter for a few buck for a 10 gallon I had out back, cleaned it up so now ill stock that with my feeders from now on. I might go buy a couple convics and hope for a breeding pair but that's still up in the air, I might be able to get some bleheri in the next few weeks, but other than that I don't know of any place to get ahold of any type of snakeheads. If anyone has a line on some young channa or know of some reputable places please post, so I can check it out :) thx

Lots of snake heads in the calgary pet stores. Call Riverfront aquariums or Franco's aquariums as they have a couple different kinds even some giant snakeheads for $10. They might ship them to you but you would have to pay for the shipping.

thanks for the tip Blkpiranha, small world, I plan to move near/in Calgary in a month if not a couple, maybe more if I decide to get another welding ticket before I leave BC. ill have to give them a call if these bleheri I might be able to get don't come through. :) thx again.
