Howdy,

Was doing some work when I noticed some major thrashing going on in the tank, eventually got up to take a look, and voila 2 new baby motoro's, both healthy swimming and chilling. Water was pretty murky so I did a 35% water change added some Prime as I always do. Everyone is doing well. It's pretty trippy to see the egg sack and little guys flying around the tank. My question is here in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada we don't get blackworks of any kind, can I start them off on mysis, blood worms? Any other suggestions would be great.

:nilly:

my little otos are eating full size(3") nightcrawlers like spaghetti

You can always try and watch to see if they eat them, I would try them on what the parents are eating but I would cut/ break it up so that it would be more of the size that they could eat. Watch and see if the baby's eat.

They sell live blackworms on line. I highly suggest removing the pups from the parents and feeding them some live blackworms. Pups have very small mouths and nothing seems to be better than live foods.

A few weeks from now you can try to get them onto some more normal foods.

Good luck and a huge congratulations!!! Pups are awesome.

Colin

Congrats on the new pups.

Bought them about a year ago. The female was about 10inches and the male 8 inches. I have just the two in a 120Galloon tank, in the process of buying/building something bigger, haven't decided the final size yet. Temperature is set to 78. ph is just over 8 which is what comes out of our taps. Diet consists of Worms live from baitshop, entire smelt frozen from grocery store, cooked shrimp, whatevers on sale, mysis. Do water changes about every 4 days of 35-40% I put some pysos (sp) houseplant roots in the tank to help soak up some extra nitrates. Any other questions, I would be more then happy to respond.

So the 8 and 10 inches are their current sizes?

Is your tank the standard 120 with a 4ft by 2ft foot print?
Im happy to see that you got pups with the tank size and h20 conditions you have. It makes me feel a little better about my situation.

What do you think is the most important thing help getting your rays to breed?

Thanks for the info!
