Bad mix, simple. rtc's are notorious for getting rid of fish, + aros arent really that much of a job for them.

yea i know. i am waiting for someone who is interesting to get my rtc. for now i can see that my arowana is stress now...

what size tank are they in and what might your plans be for the future? the rtc will out grow your aro. it may now eat it when they are larger, but the aro wont grow as fast as the cat. if you have another tank seperate them. it isn't a big problem now, but it will be.

Research before buying any other fish

glad to see you are going to get rid of your RTC... and fyi... just cuz the aro stays at the top and the rtc is on the bottom... turn the lights off and watch the rtc go all over the place... catfish are noturnal so you don't see where they go til the lights are off... and that's when he will mess with the aro... and as stated earlier... if the rtc messes with the aro... you not only have to worry about him eventually eating him but aro when stressed will try to jump and the rtc might just make it jump out... and i would really hate to see a tig get messed up by a rtc since the tigs are more expensive and harder to find... i hope you work everything out... everyone makes messes up sometimes and sometimes it works... but not sure i would risk having 1 fish mess up 2 different ones... just my 2 cents..

arowana is 5/6 inchs long
rtc is 3 inchs long
and tigrinus is 8inchs long.

atm they are ok though

I see a lot of people have pointed out the problem of keeping RTCs with the Aro at those sizes. And it's good that you're selling/giving the RTC away.

What do the experts have to say about the Tigrinus (8") as a tank-mate to a 5"-6" Silver Aro?

In my opinion, as the Tig Catfish also has a very fast growth rate (although maybe not as fast as the RTC), this can be a problem too.

I think the underlying issues are:

1. RTC (and maybe even the Tig) grow quite a bit faster than the Aro.

2. RTC is not a fish suitable for even a 7ftx2ft footprint tank

3. What Catfish can eat or try to eat..: For example: A 12" Silver Aro usually can not (or will not try to) eat a 6" fish.. On the other hand, a 12" RTC (and even Tigs) can easily eat (or try to eat) fish even as large as 8"..

Good luck,
Sid

the aro grows a lot faster than tigs do... aro and tigs are fine... i am not an expert but i have a tig that i have grown from 6 inch to 13 inch and a silver aro that was 6 inch to 24 inch... had the aro only 2 month before the tig... a TSN you would be right... they almost grow as fast a RTC but not quite... but tigs do not get anywhere near the same size as a TSN... so they should be fine... and as far as the size difference right now... i might worry about the tig freaking the aro into jumping at night but highly doubt it... and in a month or 2 the aro will catch up to the tig in size....
